The mission of the Castle Shannon Police Department is to provide professional services through proactive management for its 9,000 plus residents and businesses at a minimal cost to the community. Our Department consists of a full-time police clerk, K-9 dog, eleven full-time officers and a Police Chief divided into juvenile, narcotics and general investigative units. We patrol the 11 1/2 square miles of the community with four police vehicles and a new addition to the force, our bicycle patrol.

The Castle Shannon Borough enjoys a low crime rate, which is a direct reflection of the Department's quality employees, progressive programs, state of the art equipment and support of the borough's management and council.

The department has been cited in "Who's Who in Law Enforcement" for its progressive programs and is also a member of the South Hills Investigative Task Force, which fights drugs and crime in conjunction with the state Attorney General's office. We work aggressively with our representatives in securing state and federal funding for our initiatives. This is money coming back to the community providing advanced police services without tax hikes. We recently secured state grant funds for speed monitor trailors, these devices not only alert drivers to their speed but also computes important information for our traffic studies. Xato, our K-9 dog, was funded through the state and through drug seizure money from the District Attorney's Office. These are just a couple of examples of how we're bringing our taxes back to the borough.

Strengthening our community partnerships depends on you and your involvement, become a partner.

  • Volunteer at school or youth organization.

  • Participate with your Crime Watch program.

  • Be an observant, caring and considerate neighbor.

  • Staying informed and get involved in community issues that matter to you.

  • Become a Block Parent where kids know you'll be a helping hand in need.

  • We firmly believe that addressing the many challenging issues facing our young people is essential to ensure a safe and vibrant future for all citizens in the years to come.
    Please join us!

Through my 30 years as a police officer and nine as chief, I have always been proud to be part of this community. The Castle Shannon Police Department will remain committed to Community Oriented Policing and will continue to provide the highest quality of professional police service possible.

    Thank you,

    Harold Lane
