Credit Card Fraud June 25, 2004
The Castle Shannon Police has issued an advisery to all credit card owners. As a growing trend, credit card owners are finding purchases made on their accounts that they are unaware of. Many times this is due to placing credit information over the telephone or internet. Including retail stores, card owners should expect clerks to ask for a second form of identification. When a credit card is scanned, if noted on the account it will tell the clerk to verify identication. When purchasing over the computer a card owner is at risk. This information can be taken by someone entering the internet and viewing the transaction. At the same time, a person cannot and should not give key information of the account. You do not know who is on the other end. There are successful purchases on the internet but the risk is growing. A card holder should first contact the card company fraud department and begin to get records of the account to report it to a police department to speed the investigation when fraud is expected. Check with your card company fur security suggestions they have available.
