Message from POLICE CHIEF KEN TRUVER
August 1, 2010
Dear Residents and visitors to the Castle Shannon Police website,
Tuesday August 3, 2010 is the official date for NATIONAL NIGHT OUT -2010.
This is the 27th year for the event, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch.
These excerpts can be found on the NATW website.
“Last year's National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. In all, over 36 million people participated in National Night Out 2009.
NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is designed to:
- Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
- Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs;
- Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
- Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.“
You can participate in this event by simply turning on your porch lights or other exterior lighting around your home, and sitting on the porch or in your front yard and conversing with your neighbor.
By making ourselves visible to the criminal element and participating in open communication with our neighbors, officials and police, we can create an atmosphere that repels criminal activity.
The mission of the Castle Shannon Police Department is ”to provide law enforcement service to the community, and to affirmatively promote, preserve, and provide as much as practicable and given existing resources, a feeling of security and safety among all persons within our agency’s jurisdiction.”
On August 3rd and on the other 364 days a year, you can assist us with our mission, by being good neighbors and watching out for each other. Residents should always call 911 to report suspicious people, vehicles or circumstances and should always lock doors and windows in their homes and remove valuables from cars and lock them, even when in the driveway.
The police department appreciates citizen involvement and communication from residents in terms of input suggestions and comments. In return, we disseminate information through the CrimeReports software link on the upper right hand tab of this page and via NIXLE subscription service in addition to these site postings.
