11-3-11

Castle Shannon Police will be participating in the Thanksgiving Click it or Ticket Seat Belt Enforcement Mobilization from November 18th through December 4th, 2011. The program which is a part of the Buckle Up PA Seat Belt Enforcement and Education Program and funded through the North Central Highway Safety Network, Inc. is attempting to focus on enforcement toward the areas where seat belt compliance has the best chance of being increased:

• Roadways experiencing the highest numbers of unbuckled crashes or low belt use roadways.
• Groups that make up the greatest number of non-belt users: young adults (ages 16-24); males ages 18-34; pick-up truck drivers and of course nighttime drivers.

A Zero Tolerance approach for Seat Belt Compliance violations will be used.

The local Team DUI
11-1-11

Police Officers from the Mt Lebanon Area DUI Task Force, a member of the Western Alliance Team DUI Task Force, will continue to conduct Roving Patrols and look for intoxicated motorists into 2011.

The Mt Lebanon Area DUI Task Force includes police from Baldwin Twp, Bridgeville, Castle Shannon, Dormont, South Fayette, Greentree, Mt Lebanon, Heidelberg, Scott, and Collier Township.

This cooperative effort is part of PennDOT’s Team DUI and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Checkpoint StrikeForce, which conduct sobriety checkpoints across a six state region. This regionalized concept involves a variety of enforcement and public awareness methods to deter drinkers from driving.

Police from all ten communities will be working together and looking for drivers who appear to be driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Drivers who appear to be in violation of Pennsylvania’s legal blood limit (.08% for adults and .02% for drivers under the age of 21) will be detained and arrested.

Drivers will also be reminded to Buckle their Safety Belts. Statistics show that the three biggest factors in fatal accidents are speed, alcohol use and neglect to wear seatbelts.

ALWAYS Buckle Up and NEVER Drink and Drive!!
